What types of “favors” can be performed on earth for those who have passed? (For more on Favors see Premise.)
Bindings
There is only one binding on earth mandated by God, which is baptism “for the remission of sins.”
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. (Matthew 26:28)
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. (Luke 24:47)
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38)
This act is recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life. If in life a person failed to receive this proper form of baptism, they may receive it through Proxyism. Such baptisms were performed in the New Testament:
Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? (1 Corinthians 15:29)
This is a foreign concept to Christians no doubt, but there it is. And Paul ties it to the resurrection. In other words, baptism can help a person obtain a “better resurrection”:
Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: (Hebrews 11:35)
There are two resurrections and it is best to come forth in the first resurrection and not the second:
Blessed and holy [is] he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. (Revelation 20:6)
Having one’s name recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life will gain a person entry into the Holy City:
10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life. (Revelation 21; see Framework for more on this).
So performing a correct baptism for the deceased is a favor beyond measure.
Loosings
This site is called “Loosed” because more people will need to be “loosed” from ungodly earthly covenants than those who will need to be bound to baptism for the remission of sins.
In particular, there are secret oaths and covenants in Mormonism (and probably other religions) that are an offense to God. When they wake up to this awful fact in the next life, they will want nothing more than for someone on earth to “loose” them from those oaths and have them expunged from the records in heaven.
This can also be done because Jesus told his disciples they could:
18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. (Matthew 18)
Those are the two types of favors that can be performed: binding and loosing.
